New Taking Control of Your Diabetes Book Covers What People Living With Diabetes Want To Know

3rd Edition clearly lays out recent developments in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

August 31, 2007 - The third edition of Taking Control of Your Diabetes by Dr. Steven Edelman and Friends hits bookstore shelves this week. The overall goal of this book is to evoke positive action in those with diabetes.   By providing practical advice, clear explanation and the author's own compelling experience living with diabetes, this information-packed text educates and motivates readers to become active members of their health-care team.

The text examines treatments for type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This includes non-pharmacological modifcations to lifestyle, as well as the most up-to-date practices in custom-fit insulin therapies and oral medications.   Technologies available to assist those living with this disease are discussed, including continuous glucose monitoring and advances in home glucose monitoring. Dr. Edelman reviews short and long-term complications of diabetes, and offers suggestions on how to prevent and delay retinopathy, kidney disease, neuropathy, heart disease, and dermatological and gastrointestinal issues.

Taking Control of Your Diabetes also addresses some of the realities people with diabetes face in the workplace, and in a managed care environment where legal battles come with the territory of chronic disease.   With the credibility of a specialist living with diabetes and many of its complications himself, Taking Control of Your Diabetes challenges the reader to recognize why glucose control is critical, and why living healthfully starts with taking action.

The text is available from TCOYD by calling 1-800-998-2693, or visiting TCOYD's online store.
