Mission Statement
Guided by the belief that every person with diabetes has the right to live a healthy, happy, and productive life, Taking Control
of Your Diabetes works to educate and motivate people with diabetes to take a more active role in their condition and to provide
innovative and integrative continuing diabetes education to medical professionals caring for people with diabetes.
TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR DIABETES (TCOYD) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 diabetes education organization. Founded and directed by Dr. Steven Edelman, a nationally-recognized diabetes specialist who also has type 1 diabetes, TCOYD programs aim to inform, motivate and empower participants to take control of their diabetes.
Medical advances in diabetes care continue to out-pace improvements in patient care. It is our strong conviction that the key to improving diabetes care in this country is to inform and empower the people who are living with diabetes. This is what Taking Control of Your Diabetes is about.
Since TCOYD's inception in 1995, we have reached over 100,000 people in cities across the Unites States with our TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR DIABETES conferences and health fairs. We rely on unrestricted educational grants from pharmaceutical and medical supply companies, and private donations. Our conference fees are kept to 15-20% of our actual cost to put on TCOYD events, and in keeping with our mission, financial aid is available for all in need of assistance.
TCOYD offers a membership program, so that people can be kept informed of TCOYD news and events, as well as therapies and developments in diabetes via our quarterly newsletter.
