Dr. Simmons is a board certified endocrinologist specializing in the treatment of diabetes. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine, the Director of the Arkansas Diabetes Program, and the Director of the Training Program for the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Simmons also serves as a Staff Physician at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. Among her many honors and awards, Dr. Simmons has been listed every year since the year 2000 in 'Who's Who in America', 'Who's Who in the World', and 'Who's Who of American Women'.

Jan Wall, MS, RD, LD, CDE
Jan Wall is a Nationally Registered Dietitian, an Arkansas Licensed Dietitian, and a Certified Diabetes Educator. Since 1997 she has served as the Program Coordinator and Diabetes Nutrition Specialist for the Arkansas Diabetes Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She also serves as the Program Facilitator for the Diabetes Interactive Network.

Joe Solowiejczyk, RN, CDE, MSW

Joe is a diabetes nurse educator who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since childhood and wears an insulin pump. He has
been able to translate his personal experience into patient care. As a nurse educator and family therapist, he specializes in assessing how family dynamics impact the management of diabetes and designing treatment methods that result in more
effective coping and better diabetes control.

Joe has worked extensively with both patients and professionals on the familyoriented approach to diabetes management. He has consulted with diabetes
clinics in the U.S. and abroad on the design of educational and counseling programs for both children and adults. He has conducted workshops for parents and adults to help them cope with the diagnosis and daily challenge of living
with diabetes, as well as workshops for health care professionals on integrating
family therapy into clinical practice. He is the developer of The Family Approach to Diabetes Management and currently serves as the Clinical Manager of Counseling and Presentations for the Animas Corporation.
