Taking Control of Your Diabetes Returns to Maui, April 27
Nationally renowned conference to focus on diabetes education and care
Kahului, Maui, April 27 -- In partnership with "Diabetes Maui Style," the not-for-profit Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) will hold its critically acclaimed conference for people living with diabetes on April 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului. The TCOYD conference, lunch and health fair bring national and local medical experts in diabetes care to people with all types of diabetes, those at risk for diabetes, and their loved ones for a day of highly informative and motivational programs.
Leading specialists, many of whom have diabetes, will offer practical advice and discuss the latest developments in the treatment of diabetes, the complications of the disease. TCOYD participants can hear lectures, participate in screenings and speak one-on-one with diabetes specialists.
Two-hundred (200) attendees are expected to attend the 2008 Kahului TCOYD Conference and Health Fair. The Health Fair, with over a dozen informational exhibits from national and local diabetes-related companies and organizations, will be open throughout the day. A buffet of sandwiches, fruit and beverages will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants are asked to take a seat by 12:30 p.m.
Pre-registration is recommended and financial aid is available for those who need assistance. Registration fees are $15 per person, and include lunch, healthy snacks, and all conference activities. TCOYD is a San Diego-based 501c3 diabetes education organization dedicated to informing and empowering people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to take an active role in their health. The organization was founded by Steven V. Edelman, MD, a diabetes specialist who practices and teaches at the VA Medical Center in San Diego, and the University of California, San Diego. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 15, Dr. Edelman is an internationally recognized leader in diabetes treatment, research and education. He says, "It is my conviction, that health care in this country will improve when the people living with diabetes themselves are informed and empowered to take an active role in their own condition."
