TCOYD Conferences Make Calculable Difference
It will come as no surprise to any who have attended a
TCOYD conference that people who come to Taking
Control of Your Diabetes conferences increase their
understanding of diabetes and how to manage it.
In an abstract released at this
year's ADA 68th Annual Scientific
Sessions, Dr. Edelman and team
published data showing a significant
improvement in diabetes knowledge.
In questionnaires completed before
and after the conference by an array
of attendees including men and
women, people with type 1 and
type 2, as well as significant others,
the overall score of participants
improved dramatically across the
board.
The questions covered the
basics of diabetes care, including
A1c, blood pressure and cholesterol
levels. All groups improved their
diabetes knowledge to the nearly
same level by the end of the day
(Type 1- 85.2% correct responses;
type 2-82.4%; and non-diabetic
83.5%).
Perhaps the best measure of all,
however, is the comments, emails and
phone calls we receive after
each Taking Control of Your Diabetes
conference. "I learned more in one day
than in 10 years of living with diabetes,"
or "I loved the humor at the event; good
balance to a serious problem." And
finally, "This conference keeps me
updated with the latest information,
makes me motivated, and gives me
hope."
Wrapping up the spring
conference season with a jam-packed
Albuquerque program, we are grateful
for the comments, kudos, support and
community involvement--and we
look forward to a spectacular fall.
Maintain your edge on developments
