Cross Country Ride for Diabetes Completed
After cycling from coast to coast, Barb Selstad celebrates the ride of a lifetime.
On May 1, Barbara Selstad
peddled to the ocean in St.
Augustine, Florida, finishing her
3,098 mile bicycle ride across the
country while raising money for
Taking Control of Your Diabetes.
Barbara completed this journey
over 58 days, with ten flat tires,
taking in breathtaking vistas, and
enjoying the good company of her
riding partner Genie Lindberg,
and the 30 other women on the
Womantours tour.
One of Barbara's most challenging
and rewarding experiences was
crossing the Continental Divide
at 6,533 ft. near Silver City, New
Mexico, having a rest day and
then again climbing to Emory
Pass 8,229 ft. near Kingston,
New Mexico. "All settled back at home,"
Barbara wrote to TCOYD, "I feel
revived by the new energy and
sense of great accomplishment
I gained through this adventure.
I am also very thankful and moved
by people who made contributions
to TCOYD on behalf of my ride." So far, Barbara's ride has brought
in $5428.80 and gifts continue to
come in. If you would like to support
TCOYD's efforts to provide educational
and motivational programs
to people with diabetes and their
loved ones, send a gift to TCOYD
in honor of Barbara's ride. We are so
grateful for Barbara's commitment to
Taking Control of Your Diabetes.
